Rankd (“Rankd”, “we”, “us”) is a music rating and social app for iOS. This policy explains what we collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. Questions? Email support@rankd.app.
| Data | Why | Shared? |
|---|---|---|
| Sign in with Apple identifier | Create and secure your account. We never receive your password, and never your email unless you choose to share it. | No |
| Profile — username, display name, bio, photo, favourites | Show your profile and let friends find you | Public, if you use social features |
| Your content — ratings, reviews, rankings, lists, comments, reactions, and any photos you attach | Core app functionality | Public content is visible to other users; private content is not |
| Social graph — who you follow and block | Personalise your feed and moderation | Follows are visible; blocks are private |
| Advertising identifier (IDFA) | Personalised ads & ad measurement via Google AdMob — only if you allow tracking | Shared with Google (see Advertising) |
We do not collect your location, contacts, health data, or browsing history, and Rankd never receives your Apple ID or Apple Music credentials.
Rankd is local-first. Your personal data is stored on your device and mirrored to your own private iCloud when sync is enabled — we cannot read your private iCloud data. Content you make public (a public profile, review, or list) is published to Rankd's shared directory in Apple's CloudKit so other users can see it. Turn on Private Profile in Settings to keep your profile out of the directory.
To keep Rankd free, we show ads through Google AdMob. When you first see an ad-eligible screen, iOS asks whether Rankd may track you (the App Tracking Transparency prompt):
You can change your choice any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Google's handling of ad data is described at policies.google.com/technologies/ads and Google's Privacy Policy. We use no other analytics or tracking SDKs.
Catalogue search, artwork, previews and playback come directly from Apple Music under your own Apple Music permissions and Apple's MusicKit terms. Album artwork and audio remain the property of their owners; Rankd does not store or redistribute copyrighted audio.
If you import a Spotify (or other) data export, the file is processed entirely on your device, read once, and discarded. Only the aggregated insights are kept, and you can delete them at any time. Rankd never connects to Spotify and never receives Spotify credentials.
Rankd is not directed to children under 13, and you must be at least 13 (or the minimum age in your country) to create an account.
We keep your data only as long as your account exists. Authentication is handled by Apple; we never see or store passwords. No method of transmission is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
We may update this policy; material changes will be announced in the app and reflected here with a new “last updated” date.
